#13 - Amphora in Flight II

Inspired by our first ever Amphora in flight with the raised handles this incarnation was created through the exploration of different natural wing positions that we could reference through the form of the handles. At some point we think this will lead to a series of five or so vessels, each at a different wing position as if to capture the natural movement across the series.

This piece features our Smoke patina, a surface that has been selectively scorched with fire before brushing to remove the loose particulate and revealing the texture of the natural grain beneath. We then polish parts of the surface with a fine sandpaper before rinsing the piece in a natural lime wash that reacts with the Oak’s tannins to create a rich amber hue that intersperses the blackened surface.

The piece is then coated in a UV protected Danish oil and buffed with Renaissance wax before a thorough burnishing with a very stiff brush to create a rich textured surface. Finally any natural fissures and imperfections are celebrated through mending with waxed cotton stitch-work.
