Homo Faber 2026 in Venice, Italy

Ash & Plumb at Homo Faber 2026 in Venice, Italy

We are delighted to be creating Echoes of Piranesi for Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light. The work pairs a vessel with a columnar plinth, both turned and carved from a single section of oak. After shaping, the pieces were charred and eroded by fire, then carefully polished and repaired with thread. Inspired by Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s etchings, the work reinterprets his monumental classical forms through a raw, contemporary lens. The accompanying gallery traces this transformation, from the making process to the completed work.

Curated by the Michelangelo Foundation under the artistic direction of Es Devlin, Homo Faber 2026 will take place from 1–30 September at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice. Across 15 immersive installations, the exhibition will bring together hundreds of handcrafted objects by artisans from around the world, exploring the relationship between light, material and the human hand. We are honoured that Echoes of Piranesi will form part of this international celebration of contemporary craftsmanship.
